Dan began his appraisal career in 1986, and obtained his Certified General appraisal license in 1992. In 1999, he started his own appraisal practice, Edwards & Associates, and achieved his American Society of Appraisers (ASA) designation in 2011. In 2018, Dan also achieved his National Association of Independent Fee Appraisers (IFAS) designation. He is a past president of the Detroit Chapter #13 of the ASA. 

Dan and his wife Alyson have been blessed with two children and three grandchildren. They enjoy the outdoors, camping, riding the Silver Lake sand dunes at Lake Michigan, and the trails of northern Michigan in their dune buggy.

Dan's 35+ years of appraisal experience has been in the area of commercial type properties.  Property types appraised include retail, office, industrial, and apartment buildings, along with vacant commercial, industrial, residential, and agricultural zoned land. Dan has completed classes in Eminent Domain and appraising partial interest, and the (UASFLA) Uniform Appraisal Standards for Federal Land Acquisition class for Yellow Book appraisals along with conservation easement appraisals.
