Peoples Company is proud to offer 568 acres located in Van Buren and Cass Counties in Michigan. Approximately 498 of these acres are currently in tart cherry production. The property has a good irrigation infrastructure and ample water rights. The orchard is in prime producing age with all trees between 10 and 15 years old. The orchard is leased and operated by a vertically integrated tart cherry processor. The property is of strategic importance to the tenant as fruit from this orchard is able to be processed earlier in the season, allowing the company to extend its processing season.

Michigan is the nation’s largest tart cherry producer (~75% of total U.S. production). The Michigan industry is divided into three primary growing regions: Southwest, West Central and Northwest. Most of the tart cherry processors are located in northwest Michigan, processing the Southwest crop first in the season and then working their way north. The Van Buren/Cass County property is ideally situated in southwest Michigan and can take advantage of a long growing season.

Directions

From Dowagiac, MI: Travel north out of Dowagiac on Middle Crossing Road for 5.25 miles. South tract of the farm will be on both the north and south sides of the road.

From Dowagiac, MI: Travel north out of Dowagiac on Highway 51 for 5 miles before turning left and heading west on Highway 152.  Travel west on Highway 152 for 5 miles and farm will be on the east side of the road.

From Dowagiac, MI:Travel north out of Dowagiac on Highway 51 for 5 miles before turning left and heading west on Highway 152.  Travel west on Highway 152 for 5.25 miles before turning right and heading back east on 94th Avenue. Travel east on 94th Avenue for 1 mile and farm will be on the north side of the road.
