Company History

Peoples Company has a proud history with its roots tracing back to the farm management department of the Peoples Trust and Savings Bank in Indianola, Iowa. This community bank had a large farm clientele and began a farm management department in the early 1960’s. In 1972, the affairs of the farm management department were separately incorporated as Peoples Company. The Company added real estate brokerage services in 1983.

The current ownership team acquired majority interest of Peoples Company in 2002, and began building the infrastructure and services to expand from our traditional farm management and land brokerage business into residential and commercial brokerage. We launched DealYourOwn.com in 2003, an Internet driven ala-carte listing service which provides sellers of residential property exposure on their local MLS and selection from a menu of marketing services to sell their homes. This new and exciting venture provided us with valuable experience in utilizing the Internet to market residential properties, which we quickly adopted to our farm real estate brokerage and auction services.

Peoples Realty Company was created in 2005 to facilitate the expansion of the Peoples Company and Deal Your Own brands into new markets. A second office, Peoples Company Cedar Valley, was opened in Cedar Falls, Iowa, which has provided us the opportunity to recruit graduates from the nationally accredited real estate program at the University of Northern Iowa.

We entered the commercial real estate brokerage business in 2006. While this is a very competitive arena, we believe this is a key element to our business strategy and will provide the company with excellent growth opportunity through cooperation with our land and residential divisions.

Our offices, Peoples Company and Peoples Company Cedar Valley, receive the use of the Peoples Company and Deal Your Own trademarks and proprietary services through a license agreement with Peoples Realty Company.
